5 Dunkin Donuts in Maine pledging a “penny per cup” to American Cancer Society

5 Dunkin Donuts in Maine pledging a “penny per cup” to American Cancer Society

From WABI TV 5

by Meghan Hayward – January 6th 2012

A cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee is going a long way for the American Cancer Society.  Five local stores are taking part in the effort.

One cent from every cup of coffee, hot or iced, sold at the stores in 2012 will go to the society’s relay for life.

Dunkin Donuts got involved in the local relay last year.  This is the largest pledge the American Cancer Society has seen in this area.

” This is astronomical. This is something that’s never happened in our history of the relay, especially in our area,” said Relay for Life Volunteer, Heather Gaudett.

” Well we do a lot of stuff with the community already. But this is just another great program. Cancer is something that seems like everybody ends up being affected by at some point in their life. Anyway you can help stop it, why not?” said Dunkin Donuts General Manager, Joe MacDonald.

The five locations include Eddington, Holden, Orrington and the two Brewer stores.

They say they stand to raise about $10,000.

Maine business owner making a difference in Guatemala!

Maine business owner making a difference in Guatemala!

Esther Dawn Littlefield works from home doing advertising and account setup for a manufacturer of household products. Her company has a non-profit fundraising program that allows her to choose to partner with a charity of her choice.

She chose to support an effort underway in Guatemala and in August – helped to lead a missions trip with her church to Guatemala, to work with a program called Raising the Children of God that has multiple programs in Guatemala City and villages throughout the country. They have a feeding program which feeds about 200 children in the city every morning before the kids go to to school. They also offer classes to teenagers for free, teaching them English, computer skills, and proper etiquette.

Since returning, she continues to support this effort by making contributions through her business.  Esther says, “I am so excited that they have received a check in November and December to benefit Raising the Children of God. I am continuing to work to grow my business, and as I do so, I am able to support a charity that I care about!”
